Carla Pons and
Lucia Natal led the way as the Women's tennis team defeated Georgia Southern 4-2 Saturday at the Wallis Tennis Courts in Statesboro.
Pons and Natal each won their singles matches in consecutive sets, with Pons beating Georgia Southern's Arianne De Winter in the number one match (7-6, 6-3) and Natal beating Georgia Southern's Emilia Bujan (6-1, 6-4).
Georgia Southern started strong by taking the doubles point, winning the first two doubles matches handedly. Georgia Southern's Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Dieme beat UTA's
Almudena Boza and
Carla Vives 6-1. The Eagles took the next doubles match with Lindsey Truscott and Luisa Hrda beating UTA's
Liz Chileno and
Nanaka Takeuchi 6-1 to give Georgia Southern the doubles point.
Once singles action started, Georgia Southern continued to ride their momentum with Hrda beating Vives in consecutive sets (6-1, 6-1). That would be all the winning for the Eagles as UTA took control and won the next four singles matches starting with Natal and Pons winning their matches in consecutive sets.
Boza defeated Georgia Southern's Elizabeth Goines in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-4). Takeuchi also won in three sets as she defeated Boixader (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
