Box Score MIAMI - After a nearly two-week hiatus, the UT Arlington women's tennis team got back on the court and took care of business, defeating the Toledo Rockets 4-1 in Miami, Florida on Wednesday afternoon.
The match began with the Rockets picking up the doubles point. Dee Dee Leenabanchong and Kokoro Chishaki defeated UTA's
Carla Pons and
Momoka Horiguchi 6-4 in the No. 1 competition, while Thalita Rodrigues and Kiersten Carlson won the No. 2 competition over
Nanaka Takeuchi and
Lucia Natal 6-1. The Mavs won the No. 3 competition 6-1 with
Carla Vives and
Almudena Boza defeating Toledo's Claire Aleck and Eileen Carney.
Once singles started, it was all Mavericks. Each singles point victory came in straight sets as
Carla Pons,
Lucia Natal,
Nanaka Takeuchi and
Liz Chileno won their matches to give UTA the points to win the match. Chileno, who won in the No. 6 singles competition, has improved her record to a perfect 5-0 on the year. Horiguchi and Boza were unable to finish their matches in the No. 1 and No. 5 singles competition.Â
With the win, the Mavs move to 9-2 on the season and are just three wins away from their most wins in three seasons. UTA will attempt to get one win closer on Friday (March 8) when they take on James Madison in Miami.
