ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA couldn't get much going at the plate as they dropped their fifth consecutive game in a 7-1 loss to Dallas Baptist at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The game started almost two hours after the scheduled start time because of a lightning delay.
The Mavericks (28-18) went through seven pitchers in the loss. Starter
Nick Skeffington went 3.2 innings. Only one of the Mavs' relievers pitched more than an inning. DBU went through eight pitchers of their own.
After a scoreless first two innings, both offenses woke up in the third inning.
Nick Skeffington got the first batter of the inning to pop out, but the next three Patriots got on base. DBU (31-13) got its first run on a single in the next at-bat.
UTA responded quickly when
Connor Aube singled up the left side brought
Boone Montgomery home for the Mavs' lone run of the game.
The Patriots grabbed control of the game with a pair of two-out runs in the fourth inning.
Will Olson minimized the damage by throwing out a runner at first to end the inning. They took a 4-1 lead on a sac fly in the top of the fifth inning.
Amidst a parade of Mavs pitchers, the Patriots broke the game open with three runs in the eighth inning. Jackson Glenn started the onslaught with an RBI double for DBU's fifth run of the game. Christian Boulware ended the rally with a double for his third RBI of the game.
The Mavs will hit the road to try to snap their losing streak with a three-game Sun Belt series at ULM. The series opener is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start Friday.
