Box Score MIDLAND, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team got off to a hot start to begin fall play, competing in the Racquet Club Invitation over the weekend.  Liz Chileno and Momoka Horiguchi both reached the quarterfinals, while Nanaka Takeuchi reached the consolation semifinals.

Chileno defeated Daria Rakitskaya of Baylor in a quick 6-3, 6-1 match to open the tournament before defeating Jasmin Buchta of Lamar 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.  In her final match, she dropped a tight three set match to Olivia Peet 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.  Matching Chileno's success was Horiguchi, who defeated Abilene Christian's Andrea Guerrero 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 and UAB's Marlene Hermann 6-2, 6-2.  However, a tough matchup with Baylor's Anastasia Kharitonov got the best of her, as she was swept 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

After falling in the opening round 6-4, 7-6 to Texas Tech's Nell Miller, Takeuchi bounced back by winning her next two matches to reach the semifinals of the consolation bracket.  She won both matches in straight sets, beating Silvia Vilijoen of ACU 6-0, 6-3 and Natalia Molina of Lamar 7-5, 6-4 before falling to Emelie Schwarte of Tyler Junior College 7-6, 5-6, (6-10).

In doubles play, the tandem of Chileno and Takeuchi soared past Baylor Paula Baranano and Rakitskaya in a quick 8-1 match.  However, Nell Miller and Oliva Peet were too much to handle, as the team fell in the quarterfinals 8-4.

The Mavs will have two weeks off before traveling to the Rice Invitational for a three-day tournament from September 27 – 29 in Houston, Texas.
