HARLINGEN, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team will send two of their players to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Pro Future in Harlingen this weekend. Angel Diaz and Miguel Cabrera will compete in the tournament that will take place beginning Saturday, Sept. 21 and go through Wednesday, Sept. 25.
"We are excited about our players representing us in in such a high-profile event," said head coach Diego Benitez. "Our players will have the opportunity to compete against, not only the best college players, but the best players in the world. We're looking forward to the challenge and it will provide great opportunities in both singles and doubles."
Diaz went 1-1 in singles last weekend at the Racquet Club Invitational, defeating Raul Dobai of New Mexico 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 before falling to Texas A&M's Pranav Kumar in three sets 7-6, 2-6, 5-7. Cabrera will look to pick up his first wins of the fall season after not competing in the Racquet Club Invitational a week ago. This will also be the first competition that Diaz and Cabrera will team up in the doubles draw.
