ARLINGTON – The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs, City of Arlington and
UTA Athletic Department officials announced on Tuesday.
Â
The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, Texas Rangers Golf Club – which opened this past February – will officially become the new home of the Mavericks on Oct. 1.
Â
Texas Rangers Golf Club (TRGC) is the result of a $24 million project which includes a total renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus.
Â
Making TRGC an even more fitting location for the Home of UTA Golf is that the course was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design.
Â
"We're thrilled to have Texas Rangers Golf Club as the new home of our men's and women's golf programs," stated UTA Director of Athletics
Jim Baker. "From having the course designed by UTA alumni to residing just a few miles from campus, this was a perfect fit for our teams. The top-rate facilities will give our student-athletes a premier course to practice and play on, and afford them a collegiate golfing experience which rivals that of any program in the nation."
Â
An expansive 23-acre practice area – which includes a wide, multi-level driving range, several short-game and putting areas and even a Texas Rangers-logoed on-deck circle – serves as an ideal space for training.
Â
A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, set to open in early 2020, will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
Â
"The City of Arlington is proud to welcome the UTA men's and women's golf programs to Texas Rangers Golf Club, further bolstering the relationship between the city and our hometown Mavericks," said Arlington City Manager and UTA alumnus Trey Yelverton. "It's a great partnership between a first-class golf course that continues to rise in acclaim since our recent renovation paired with two upstart golf programs. We look forward to showcasing Arlington and Texas Rangers Golf Club to the collegiate golf community."Â
Â
As the Home of UTA Golf, TRGC will host collegiate tournaments, in addition to the department's annual Mav Open fundraiser each fall and other special events throughout the course of the year. Fans will also eventually be able to purchase UTA merchandise in the TRGC Pro Shop.
Â
Last week, the PGA TOUR's Korn Ferry Tour (previously the Web.com Tour) announced that TRGC would be the host of the new Veritex Bank Championship next April 16-19.
Â
The UTA men's golf team commenced its 2019-20 season with a thrilling co-championship performance last week at the UTSA Lone Star Invitational, edging out several top teams in the nation en route to the shared title at TPC San Antonio, host of the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open.
Â
The Maverick women's program is in its third year of action, and this past spring made significant strides with some of the best team and individual performances in its brief history.
