LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The UT Arlington men's golf team will wrap up its quick, abbreviated fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, when the Mavericks tee it up in the Little Rock Invitational from the Founder's Course at Chenal Country Club.
Â
Action is set to commence with 36 continuous holes on Monday with the final round slated for Tuesday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat by following the link attached to this release or by clicking here.
Â
This event format will be play six, count four, meaning UTA – and all other teams – will have six team members in its lineup and the four lowest scores each of the three rounds will count toward the team total.
Â
Those six Mavericks who will be teeing it up on the par-72, 7,115-yard layout include:
Â
1) Paul Gonzalez
2) Daniel Cronje
3) Caleb Hicks
4) Jacob Massengale
5) Zakary Jones
6) Zach Cole
Â
In response to COVID-19, all six Mavericks – like every other team – plan to be grouped together.
Â
In addition to UTA and host and fellow Sun Belt Conference member Little Rock, the following teams will also be competing: Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Missouri State, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Texas State and ULM.
Â
UTA will be looking to improve upon a 13th-place finish at this same event last October when the Mavericks recorded a 906 (+42) three-round total – their worst of the 2019-20 season by 20 shots. Gonzalez led the Mavs with an even-par 216 performance to tie for 8th overall in the field of 87. Along with Gonzalez, Jones, Cronje and Hicks were all in the team lineup in Little Rock last year as well.
Â
Gonzalez opened his senior campaign last week at Arkansas State's Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate with three-straight level-par rounds to tie for 9th overall. That marked his 10th-career top-10 performance and continued his strong play with a fifth top-10 in his last eight tournaments, dating back to the beginning of last season.
Â
Additionally, Gonzalez lowered his career scoring average from 73.06 to 73.02 – further extending his current career program scoring record to .08 ahead of present holder Zack Fischer (73.10 from 2008-11).
Â
Cronje commenced his sophomore campaign last Monday and Tuesday with a career-best T-13 on the strength of a career-best 217 (+1) total.
Â
Massengale and Jones both posted 229 (+13) totals, while Cole signed for a 234 (+18) and Hicks posted an extremely-uncharacteristic 237 (+21). That quartet will be looking to better their performances in the final opportunity of the fall slate.

THE NEW HOME OF UTA GOLF: Texas Rangers Golf Club
The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of the UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus. The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – set to open in early 2020 – will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
