ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington head baseball coach
Darin Thomas announced the addition of Taylor Dugas to his coaching staff as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Dugas joins the Mavs after spending the last four seasons at Northwestern State in Louisiana.
Â
"My wife and I are ecstatic to be joining the UTA family," said Dugas. "I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this great coaching staff and student-athletes. I look forward to forming relationships with our current players and new players to come. I want to thank Coach Thomas for this opportunity."
Â
Dugas' imprint on the Demons was evident, as NSU produced an All-Southland Conference selection in each of his three full seasons as hitting coach. In 2018, Dugas coached the Southland Conference Player of the Year and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American David Fry.
Â
The Demons had one of their best offensive seasons in nearly a decade during Dugas' second season in Natchitoches. The NSU batters hit 50 home runs, while leading the Southland Conference with 172 extra-base hits.
Â
"I am very excited to add Taylor to our staff," said Thomas "His resume of playing, recruiting and developing players makes him a tremendous hire. I believe he is one of the best young coaches in baseball today."
Â
Dugas was a four-year letterman at Alabama, where he set schools records for hits (334), singles (235), doubles (67) and triples (18). He was drafted in the eighth-round by the Chicago Cubs (2011) and New York Yankees (2012). Dugas reached the majors while playing in the Yankees organization in 2015.
Â
In Dugas' four-year career, he averaged .283 at the plate, had an on-base percentage of .400 while knocking in 108 RBI.
Â
Dugas will round out the coaching staff with fellow first year Maverick coaches
Brady Cox and
Galen McSpadden.
Â
The Mavericks will look to continue their success from the COVID shortened 2020 season where they reached the highest RPI in program history. The 2021 schedule will be released at a later date.
