ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team clinched a series win over the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders in game two of their series, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Three pitchers combined for the nine-inning game.
Kody Bullard (1-0) picked up the win, pitching 6.1 innings and striking out three batters while allowing just one run.
Tanner King came in for relief, striking out two batters in 1.1 innings pitched.Â
Cesar Gomez picked up his first save of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings for the Mavericks, not allowing a run.
Phillips Childs had a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a double.

Andrew Keefer and
Cole Solomon each finished with an RBI. Keefer, Solomon and
Josh Minjarez joined Childs on the hit list, each finishing with one.
For the second straight game, the Mavericks jumped out ot an early lead.Â
Zac Cook and
Anthony Dominguez walked to put runners on first and second before a wild pitch pushed both runners into scoring position. Miller knocked in Cook with a sacrifice fly to center field to put the Mavs up 1-0.
UTA scored again in the second inning to go up 2-0. Childs led off with a double down the left field line before being pushed home by Solomon on a single to right center.
The Mavericks took advantage of an error by the Islanders in the sixth inning. Keefer singled to right field to score Childs for a second time. On the play, the Islanders tried to throw out
Dylan Paul at third, but an errant throw allowed Paul to reach home and push the score to 4-1.
Corpus got on board for the first time 16 innings to start the season in the seventh inning. Two singles put runners on the corners when
Tanner King replaced Bullard on the mound. A balk by King pushed the runner on third home to make the score 4-1.

UTA will look to complete the sweep of the season opening series tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 16) at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
