ARLINGTON, Texas – After being recognized as one of the top 120 pitchers in the nation to begin the season, UT Arlington pitcher David Moffat was recognized as one of the 2020 Top Junior Pitchers by D1Baseball.com based on analytics from four weeks of statistics.
 
To identify those with the best performances, D1 Baseball broke down pitching into three categories: Zone Control, Pitch Ability, and Durability. Zone Control is how well the pitcher controls the strike zone with strikeouts, walks, wild pitches and hit by pitch. Pitch Ability refers to the pitcher's ability to pitch and uses statistics like WHIP, FIP and OppSLG. Durability is largely based on innings pitched and batters faced.
 
The rankings are based on the four weeks of statistics from the 2020 season. They are computed with an adjustment to account for park effects of the most extreme hitter and pitcher-friendly parks, as well as an adjustment for a team's strength of schedule.
 
With an overall grade of 90.5, Moffat came in ranked as the 21^st ranked junior pitcher in the nation. He was one of just 25 pitchers to earn a grade of 90.0 or above.
 
Moffat had a 1-0 record through four games started and had allowed just two earned runs through 27.0 innings pitched for an ERA of 0.67.  He led all Maverick starters in innings pitched and ERA.  Moffat went the final 14.1 innings pitched without an earned run, while holding opposing batters to just a .148 batting average.
