@UTAMavsBSB Clinch Series Win Over UTSA

ARLINGTON, Texas - Behind 12 hits, the UT Arlington baseball team (11-3) clinched a series win over the UTSA Roadrunners with a 9-5 win on Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Kody Bullard (W, 3-1) picked up his fourth start of the season, tossing 5.0 innings.  Bullard allowed two earned runs off six hits, while striking out three batters.  Wyatt Divis (S, 2) pitched the final 4.0 innings, striking out six batters. Divis has now thrown 16.0 shutout innings to begin the 2020 campaign.

The Mavericks were led offensively by Zac Cook (3-for-5) and Dylan Paul (3-for-4).  Cook and Paul both connected on home runs to right field.  Cook, Josh Minjarez and Matthew Cavanagh led the Mavericks with two RBI each.

Anthony Dominguez got the ball rolling for the Mavericks, hitting a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Connor Aube and put the Mavs up 1-0.

A strong third inning powered the Mavericks to victory.  With a runner on, Cook opened things up with a two-run blast right right field.  Andrew Miller, Dominguez and Phillip Childs loaded the bases for Minjarez who drove in two runs with a single to left field.

Paul singled to load the bases again before Cavanagh hit a double down the left field line to score two more runs.  Sam Gotlieb hit a sacrifice fly to conclude the scoring and put the Mavericks up 8-0.

Errors hurt the Mavericks in the fourth inning. A single and double to start the inning scored one run for the Mavericks.  With two outs, an error by Cavanagh kept the inning alive and allowed one run to score.  The next batter connected on a two-run home run to make it 8-4.

The next inning, the Roadrunners scored another to make it a three-run game, using a sacrifice fly to score their fifth run.

Paul quickly got the run back in the bottom frame, leading off with a solo home run to right field - the first of his season.

With Divis on the mound, the Roadrunners were unable to get any more runs as the Mavs held on to victory 9-5.

UTA will look to sweep the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
