JONESBORO, Ark. - The UT Arlington women's golf team completed its first two rounds at Arkansas State's Lady Red Wolves Classic from Sage Meadows Country Club on Monday with a 36-hole 610 total. 
 
The Mavericks posted rounds of 304 and 306 and currently sit in 11th place as graduate student Madigan Murray paced UTA in the 2nd round with an impressive -1 – her second under-par round of the year.

Eastern Kentucky leads the 16-team field following impressive rounds of 286 and 287 for a 573 (-3) total as the Colonels are the only team under par.

INSIDE THE SCORES
Hlynsdottir

• Hlynsdottir began her round on the back side and set herself up nicely sitting at +1 through the first 13 holes with just one bogey – which came on hole 15. An unlucky double bogey on the 6th slowed down her momentum, however she was able play the last three holes in +1 after back-to-back birdies on holes 8 and 9.
• Started her second round on hole 11 and put up three-consecutive pars before a double bogey on 14 and a bogey on 16 set her back. She played in +3 over 17-6 before closing with her first birdie of the round, on 10.

Murray

• Opened on the back side and shot 2-over through the first 10 holes with a birdie on hole 17. Murray was unable to keep her momentum going on the front side after recording five bogeys in the final eight holes.
• Murray improved her numbers as she began her second round on the 10th and posted a flawless opening 9 to make the turn in even par (36) with two birdies coming on holes 10 and 13. She carried that same momentum onto the front side as she closed with her third birdie on 9 to cap the round of 71.

 
Garber

• Garber uncharacteristically made seven bogeys in her first round which prevented her from gaining any momentum. However, she would be able to birdie holes 8 and 18.  
• After opening with a birdie on 10, she made three bogeys on holes 13, 14 and 18 and remained at +2 heading into the 5th hole.  Despite a bogey on the 7th, she would be able to roll another birdie on 8 to play the last few holes +3.

Adams

• Adams – who opened on the 12th hole – recorded two double bogeys and three bogeys through the first seven holes that set her back, but she would be able to birdie hole 16. After entering the front side +6, she was able to roll her second birdie of the round – which came on hole 7 – but several big numbers following that were too much to bounce back from.
• Unfortunately, not much changed for Adams in her second round of the day as she shot 84. However, she was able to record seven pars and one birdie.

Gonzalez

• Gonzalez was one of four Mavs who didn't put anything higher than a bogey on their card. After opening on the 11th hole, she played in +3 on the back side which featured three bogeys on 12, 14 and 18. The senior settled down as she made the turn and recorded nine-straight pars to play the rest of the round in +3.

Howard

• Playing as an individual, Howard opened with a bogey on hole 18 and shot 1-over though the first four holes. Unfortunately, seven bogeys derailed her momentum, but she would be able to get her card back to +6 after she birdied holes 15 and 16.
• Got off to a better start as Howard shot in +1 through the first 14 holes with birdies coming on holes 7 and 9. She produced a 37 (+1) on the front 9 – two shots better than her first round – and played the final three holes in 3-over.

THIS AND THAT

• UTA currently sits with the 3rd-best par-3 scoring average (3.22).
• Hlynsdottir is tied for 2nd with 27 pars alongside South Alabama's Siti Shaari and Arkansas State's Madison Smith.
• Murray is now tied for the 10th-best low round score in program history following today's second-round 71.

 
NEXT UP
UTA will continue play in Arkansas with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the final round on Tuesday.
