ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA baseball head coach
Darin Thomas has announced the 2021 baseball schedule, and the 54-game slate includes 24 home contests, 28 road games and two neutral site games against Tarleton State and Oklahoma at Globe Life Field.
"I feel we have once again put together a very challenging schedule that will create many opportunities to play quality competition and improve our RPI at the same time," said Thomas.
Due to COVID-19, general public will not be permitted at Clay Gould Ballpark this season. There is more information regarding this policy at the end of the release.
The start to the 2021 slate will feature UTA away from Clay Gould Ballpark for the first five games. Opening weekend will see the Mavs travel to Corpus Christi for a three-game series against the Islanders. The away slate will end with games against Tarleton State (Feb. 23) and Oklahoma (Feb. 24) at Globe Life Field.
UTA will then return home to play 11 of the next 15 games in the friendly confines of Clay Gould Ballpark, starting with a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 26-28). The homestand will end with the start of Sun Belt Conference play against South Alabama (Mar. 19-21) and a midweek game against Baylor (Mar. 23). One of the road games will feature the Mavericks heading to Norman to take on the Sooners for a second time (Mar. 9).
The Mavericks will then have a stretch of games that feature 15 of the next 20 on the road. During that stretch, they will play the likes of Houston (Mar. 26-28), Texas State (Apr. 1-3), Baylor (Apr. 6) and TCU (Apr. 20).
The five home games during the stretch will feature two mid-week games against Big 12 opponents when TCU (Mar. 30) and Kansas (Apr. 21) come to Arlington. It will also feature a weekend series against Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina (Apr. 9-11).
The Mavericks' final two mid-week games will be at Clay Gould Ballpark when UTA hosts DFW rival TCU (Apr. 27) before ending the non-conference slate with SEC opponent Texas A&M (May 4). It marks the first time since 2017 that the Aggies have visited the Mavericks, when UTA upended the 23
rd-ranked A&M squad, 3-2.
Louisiana comes to town for Senior Weekend on May 14, with Senior Day taking place on Sunday, May 16.
The regular season will end with a trip to Statesboro, Ga., to take on Georgia Southern (May 20-22).
The Sun Belt Baseball Championship will be held at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium in 2021 in the capitol city of Alabama.
All game times, dates and even opponents are subject to change with the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19.
2021 BASEBALL HOME GAME SPECTATOR POLICY
Due primarily to COVID-related space constraints, general-public spectators
are not permitted at home UTA baseball games this season. UTA and the visiting team will be permitted a pass list – those individuals on the team-approved list will be allowed to attend. Those spectators will be seated in pods of four (4) socially-distanced seats, labeled for home or visiting team.
Guests are permitted to bring their own drinks and food as concessions will not be available. However,
alcohol is not permitted. Tailgating is also prohibited.
The Mocek Patio down the left-field line will be closed to the public; this space will be allocated for expanded visiting dugout seating.
There will be no post game guest interaction inside Clay Gould Ballpark. There will be a designated area outside the stadium for those on the pass list to meet with student-athletes.
Dogs are welcome, and a short online waiver – which is good for the entire season – can be completed upon arrival.
Mask wearing and social-distancing measures are in place whenever on campus, and Sun Belt Conference and university COVID protocols must be followed.
BASEBALL HOME GAME COVERAGE
For the first time in department history, UTA Athletics will broadcast nine (9) home baseball games exclusively on ESPN+ and the ESPN App. For all other home games not on ESPN+, there will be a live audio broadcast on UTAMavs.com. Live stats will be available for each game as well, in addition to social-media coverage and postgame content.
Due to contractual obligations between the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN, beginning in 2020-21 all live UTA Athletics game broadcasts must be shown on ESPN+ and adhere to minimum standards. Infrastructure is not in place to reach those standards; thus, there will be no live video broadcasts aside from the aforementioned nine (9) ESPN+ contests set forth in the Sun Belt-ESPN contract utilizing third-party equipment. UTA Athletics' goal is to have full ESPN+ capabilities beginning in the 2022 season.
