FORT WORTH – The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams begin their outdoor season on Saturday, Mar. 20, at the TCU Invitational from the Lowdon Track Complex.
Â
In addition to UTA and host TCU, the following teams are scheduled to compete: Arkansas State, North Texas, Northwestern State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and SMU. Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, no fans nor pass lists will be permitted at the invitational.
Â
Field events are slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m., with track events planned for a 2 p.m. start. Real-time results will be available via Flash Results following the link attached to this release, in addition to the meet's heat sheets.
Â
The invite will be the first of what the Mavericks hope will be six regular-season meets leading into the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 13-15 in Mobile, Ala.
Â
UTA is coming off a COVID-impacted abbreviated indoor season of three regular-season events before the Sun Belt Championships, but despite that the Mavs still turned in several impressive performances leading into what head coach
John Sauerhage anticipates to be a strong outdoor season for his club.
Â
No one had a better indoor season than
Bryson DeBerry, who this week was named a First Team All-America in the high jump by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after posting a top-8 finish at the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
Â
He was one of four Mavs to win Gold at the Sun Belt Championships as in addition to his high jump title,
Joel Bengtsson claimed the 60m hurdles crown for the second-straight year,
Madeleine Rowe won the 1 mile and
Cole Klashinsky emerged victorious in the 3000m.
Â
All of those members head into the outdoor season where they will be joined by senior
Justin Domangue, who still has a year of eligibility remaining in the outdoor season due to the pandemic forcing the cancelation of last spring's docket. Domangue – who finished on the podium in three events the last time the SBC Outdoor Championships were held in 2019 – is scheduled to compete in the 1500m and 800m events this weekend.
Â
Following action this weekend, UTA will face a quick turnaround when it heads to the Texas Relays in Austin Mar. 25-27.
