UTA NOTES
  • After starting the season with 14 of their first 19 games in Arlington (Globe Life Field or Clay Gould Ballpark), the Mavericks are about to play 15 of their next 20 games on the road.
  • Transfer Tommy Williams has been a great addition to the Mavericks lineup.  The Canyon, Texas native currently leads the Mavericks with a .333 batting average on the season.
  • The Mavericks return 90 percent of their innings pitched and 95 percent of their strikeouts from a season ago.
  • The Mavericks have been able to hold onto small leads when it comes down to the wire.  In one-run games, UTA is 5-0 on the season.
  • Josh Minjarez is closing in on a couple records for UTA. He has played in the 7th most games in UTA history and is 20 shy of the record held by Darrell Preston (230, 2001-2004). His mark of 211 games played is also the 5th highest active mark in the country. He also has the 4th most at-bats in UTA history - 2 shy of 3rd place (Jeff Stephens - 749)
  • Catcher Sam Gotlieb has shown off his arm behind the plate as he has already thrown out three runners trying to take second and leads the Sun Belt with four back-picks on the season.
  • Carlos Tavera threw seven no-hit innings in his start last Friday, striking out 11 batters along the way as the Mavs won 3-2 over South Alabama. His performance was good enough to earn him Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | HOUSTON
  • Houston catcher Kyle Lovelace has caught seven runners stealing in 12 attempts. He is second in the American Athletic Conference in caught stealing.
  • The Cougars have been using the long ball to score runs this season. Houston ranks 15th nationally and tied for first in the American Athletic Conference with 27 home runs
  • Houston is 10-9 overall, but have an extra-innings win over then-No. 19 Texas at Schroeder Park 3-2 on March 6. The Cougars were swept last weekend at Oklahoma.
  • Tyler Bielamowicz has been a force at the plate this season. He leads the squad with a .391 batting average and has five home runs with 15 RBI to his name this season.
  • Reliever Derrick Cherry is second on the team with 18 strikeouts, despite only tossing 12.1 innings.  He also leads the team with a 1.46 ERA, allowing just two earned runs.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mavericks and Cougars have played each other nine times with Houston leading the series 8-1.  The two squads last played February 18-20, 2011 in Houston with the Cougars taking all three games. The lone win for the Mavericks came on May 26, 2001 in a 7-6 win in Houston.

ON DECK
