AUSTIN – Abigail Flores delivered the 2nd-best discus throw in UT Arlington women's outdoor track and field history on Saturday to conclude the Mavericks' showing in the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Â
Through the first two days of the Texas Relays, UTA had posted six total top-5 all-time program records – including two of the top marks in the nation this year – and Flores notched a seventh for the Mavs.
Â
The sophomore's throw of 49.33m (161-10) is now 2nd in the program record book to only a 50.80m (166-08) mark by Marsha French in 1999. It came on her third of six attempts as she destroyed her previous best of 44.93m. Flores finished in 4th place in the event among 16 total competitors.
Â
On Friday, the all-freshman 4x100m relay team of
Seth Texada,
Dominick Yancy,
DaVontay Kennedy and
Chidera Agim impressed in their debut, finishing 2nd in the heat with a time of 40.94 to automatically earn one of the nine qualifying placements into Saturday's final, but registered a 40.98 time in the final to finish in 6th place.
Â
Among the other UTA competitors on relatively light schedule for the Mavs on Saturday:
- In the 800m, Mathilde Ruud set a PR, shaving more than three seconds off her previous low time with a clocking of 2:15.33.
- Darius Prescott registered a 14.92m (48-11½) in the triple jump on his first attempt to finish 7th.
- Victor Bocanegra approached a PR with a 1:53.33 time in the 800m.
- Bryson DeBerry cleared 2.07m (6-9½) in the high jump on his first attempt, but was unable to get over 2.12m (6-11½). Â
