Women's Tennis Prepares for Two Matches in Metroplex

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team will play two matches in the DFW area over a two-day span, beginning tomorrow (Wednesday, March 10) when they welcome Southeastern Oklahoma State to the UTA Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. match.  The following day, the Mavericks will travel to SMU to take on the Mustangs for a 5 p.m. match.
 
The Mavericks have been perfect on the season, sporting a 6-0 record thus far.  In singles play, UTA is winning a staggering 96.3 percent of their match, dropping just one so far.  Carla Pons leads the Mavs with a 6-0 record in dual play and 11 wins dating back to fall tournament action.
 
In the No. 1 position, Momoka Horiguchi is a perfect 3-0 on the season, while Polina Akimova is 4-0 in the No. 3 position.
 
Doubles is winning 75 percent of their matches this season with a 12-4 record.  Lucia Natal and Momka Horiguchi have locked down the No. 2 position with a perfect 3-0 record, while Carla Pons and Almudena Boza are undefeated (3-0) on court three.
 
SERIES HISTORY | SE OKLAHOMA STATE
This will be just the second time the two teams have faced off.  The only other times they have met was in 1990 when SE Oklahoma State took down the Mavericks 6-3 in Denton.
 
SERIES HISTORY | SMU
The Mustangs hold an 11-5 record over the Mavericks and have won three in a row.  UTA's last victory came in 2016, but they haven't won in Dallas since 1999. SMU took last year's matchup 6-1 in Dallas.
 
2021 UTA HOME TENNIS PROTOCOL
No general-admission spectators are permitted at home UTA men's and women's tennis matches this season.
