Four Individual Titles Highlight UTA’s Performance At North Texas Classic

DENTON – The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams had four individuals win events on Saturday, while numerous others posted top-3 finishes or set personal-best marks at the North Texas Classic.

Arthur Petersen continued his run of dominance in the javelin as the freshman picked up another victory with yet another top-5 all-time program mark. However, on an extremely windy day he delivered the shortest of his winning throws this season at 69.36m (227-06).

Still, that mark is good for the 5th-best in program history as he now holds three of the top-5 throws after only three career events. The Denmark native was more than 25 feet better than the runner-up and better than 60 feet from 3rd place.

Bryson DeBerry picked up a win in the long jump with a distance of 7.14m (23-05¼). That jump came on his 5th attempt as he won the event by five inches. The senior also earned a victory in the high jump as he cleared 2.10m (6-10¾) on his first try to easily win as no one else in the field even got past the 1.95m (6-04¾) progression.

Joel Bengtsson (14.15) and Medric Roberson (14.27) finished 1st and 2nd in the 110m hurdles.

Randon Gray established a personal best in the pole vault with a mark of 4.90m (16-00¾) to claim 2nd place. Gray cleared 4.80 (15-09) on his third, and final, attempt to progress to the 4.90 bar, which he got over on his first try. That mark is currently tied for the 5th-best in the Sun Belt Conference this year.

Tanner Henderson gave the Mavs another 2nd-place showing as he crossed in a time of 9:29.45 in the 3000m steeplechase for UTA's first top-3 finish in running events.

Madeleine Rowe registered a personal-best time in the 800m (2:13.13) to finish 2nd in the event, and in the process give her the current 3rd-fastest mark in the league this season.

On the men's side of the 800m, Justin Domangue also finished 2nd as he crossed in 1:56.86.

Additionally, UTA posted the following individual highlights and top-3 performances on Saturday: NEXT ON THE BLOCKS
The Mavs will head to Oklahoma's Sooner Invitational next Friday, Apr. 16.
