Women's Tennis Ready For Sun Belt Tournament

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - The first-seeded UT Arlington women's tennis team will await the winner of 4E Appalachian State and 5W Texas State at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Friday at 1 p.m.

The Mavericks swept Texas State in their two matches this season, winning eight of the eleven total points. Due to COVID scheduling restrictions in the conference, the Mavericks have yet to play App State.

Carla Pons leads all Mavericks with a 21-3 record on the season.  She currently has the 2nd highest winning percentage in a single season in UTA history at 87.5 percent.  In dual matches, the junior sits at 16-1.

Four other Mavericks have reached the double-digit win total this season - Almudena Boza (10), Momoka Horiguchi (10), Lucia Natal (11) and Polina Akimova (11). Natal sits at a perfect 11-0 on the year, including 8-0 in dual competition.

UTA has been nearly unstoppable in Sun Belt play, winning 85.7 percent of their dual singles matches with a 30-5 record.  That mark helped the Mavericks capture their perfect Sun Belt regular season.

In doubles competition, Carla Pons and Almudena Boza lead the pack with a 12-3 record and hold down No. 3 with an 11-3 mark on the year.  The tandem has lost just one Sun Belt match this season compared to their six wins.

UTA is looking to advance to the Sun Belt semifinals for a second consecutive season, doing so in 2019.  The Mavericks were defeated by Georgia Southern in the semi-finals in the last Sun Belt tournament. The Mavericks have not won the Sun Belt Tournament Championship, making the finals in 2015, but falling to South Alabama 4-3.

Fans will have a few options on how to follow along with the match.  All matches will be aired on ESPN+ this year and the Sun Belt will provide live stats for the matches, as well.

In addition to ESPN+ coverage ang live stats, updates will be posted on the official Twitter account of the program @UTAMavsWTEN.
