UTA NOTES
  • After going hitless in the 16 games played last season, Boone Montgomery has become the most reliable hitter for the Mavericks.  The junior leads the squad in batting average (.340), slugging percentage (.553), on base percentage (.446), hits (32) and doubles (8).
  • The Mavericks return 90 percent of their innings pitched and 95 percent of their strikeouts from a season ago.
  • Senior Connor Aube is tied for 4th in the Sun Belt with 6 home runs, two more than his career-high of four which was set in 2019.
  • Josh Minjarez is closing in on a couple records for UTA. He has played in the 6th most games in UTA history and is 10 shy of the record held by Darrell Preston (230, 2001-2004). His mark of 220 games played is also the 5th highest active mark in the country. He also has the 3rd most at-bats (781) and 9th most base hits (218), and 8th total bases (321) and home runs (21).
  • The Maverick pitching staff has made opponents earn base runners this season.  They currently lead the Sun Belt and rank 26th in the nation in walks per nine innings (3.21)
  • Dylan Paul has reached base in 17 straight games, the longest such streak of the season for the Mavericks. The streak also marks the longest of Paul's career, doubling his previous mark of six.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | COASTAL CAROLINA
  • The Chants have had to take the last two weeks off due to COVID protocols, but are still one of the most high powered offenses in the nation.  They ranked 35th in the NCAA in total home runs (30) and 29th in home runs per game (1.30).
  • Cooper Weiss has been patient at the plate this season, ranking 27th in total walks (22).
  • Alaska Abney has been the closer for Coastal this season, racking up five saves on the season, second in the SBC and 17th in the nation.
  • Pitching has been a strong point for the Chants, ranking fourth in the conference in team ERA (4.56).
  • Billy Underwood leads the Sun Belt conference in on-base percentage, reaching base on 50 percent of his plate appearances.
SERIES HISTORY
UTA and Coastal Carolina only have a recent history, with their first games against each other coming in 2017. The Chanticleers lead the all-time series 6-2, but the Mavericks have won two of the last three.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | ABILENE CHRISTIAN
  • The Wildcats have a potent offense, ranking 10th in the nation in runs scored (215).  They are also 17th in walks (138), 24th in batting average (.295) and 24th in on-base percentage (.400).
  • Colton Eager leads the Southland Conference and ranks 8th in the country with 42 hits.  He is also ranked 17th in runs scored (30) and 22nd in doules (10).
  • Baylor boasts one of the top offenses in the nation.  They rank second in the NCAA in hits (290) and eighth in batting average (.306)
  • Max Huffling and Tyler Morgan are the two regular mid-week starters for the Wildcats, sporting a 2.81 ERA and 3.82 ERA, respectively
  • All six qualifying Wildcats have at least 15 RBI on the season.  Four of the six have over 20 RBI.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mavs own the all-time record over ACU 21-9 and 7-3 since the WIldcats became Division I in 2014.  UTA won the earlier meeting this season at Clay Gould Ballpark 3-2 with a walk-off home run by Dylan Paul in the 12th inning.

2021 BASEBALL HOME GAME SPECTATOR POLICY
Due primarily to COVID-related space constraints, general-public spectators are not permitted at home UTA baseball games this season. UTA and the visiting team will be permitted a pass list – those individuals on the team-approved list will be allowed to attend. Those spectators will be seated in pods of four (4) socially-distanced seats, labeled for home or visiting team.

Guests are permitted to bring their own drinks and food as concessions will not be available. However, alcohol is not permitted. Tailgating is also prohibited.

The Mocek Patio down the left-field line will be closed to the public; this space will be allocated for expanded visiting dugout seating.

There will be no post-game guest interaction inside Clay Gould Ballpark. There will be a designated area outside the stadium for those on the pass list to meet with student-athletes.
Dogs are welcome, and a short online waiver – which is good for the entire season – can be completed upon arrival.

Mask wearing and social-distancing measures are in place whenever on campus, and Sun Belt Conference and university COVID protocols must be followed.

BASEBALL HOME GAME COVERAGE
For the first time in department history, UTA Athletics will broadcast nine (9) home baseball games exclusively on ESPN+ and the ESPN App. For all other home games not on ESPN+, there will be a live audio broadcast on UTAMavs.com. Live stats will be available for each game as well, in addition to social-media coverage and postgame content.

Due to contractual obligations between the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN, beginning in 2020-21 all live UTA Athletics game broadcasts must be shown on ESPN+ and adhere to minimum standards. Infrastructure is not in place to reach those standards; thus, there will be no live video broadcasts aside from the aforementioned nine (9) ESPN+ contests set forth in the Sun Belt-ESPN contract utilizing third-party equipment. UTA Athletics' goal is to have full ESPN+ capabilities beginning in the 2022 season.
