MOBILE, Ala. – A third-straight day with a UT Arlington member winning a gold medal highlighted the Mavericks' performance on the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday from South Alabama's Jaguar Track Complex.
Â
The UTA men closed the championships in 4th place with 102 points – 18 ahead of 5th-place Louisiana – as the Mavs have now finished in the top-4 in each of their seven outdoor Sun Belt appearances. On the women's side, the Mavs secured 70 points – 8.5 more than the last time the championships were held in 2019 – to finish in 7th place, 31 points clear of 8th.
Â
Madeleine Rowe highlighted the day for UTA as she came from behind to win the women's 1500m in convincing fashion with the 3rd-fastest time in program history at 4:26.28. That mark is nearly seven seconds better than the Arlington native's previous personal best, and almost nine seconds quicker than her qualifying time of 4:35.19. Rowe's win gave the Mavs 10 big points on the women's side.
Â
In total, UTA had eight podium finishes on the day, with additional information about each of those and more included below.
Â
MEN'S 5000M
Cole Klashinsky (14:22.01) finished 2nd with
Justin Domangue (14:22.83) right behind him in 3rd as the duo picked up a silver and bronze medal in the 5000m to notch 14 total points for the Mavs. For Domangue, the performance completed a three-medals-in-three-day showing as he earned a bronze in the 10000m on Thursday before picking up a silver in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday.
Â
MEN'S HIGH JUMP
Bryson DeBerry won silver in the high jump with a clearance of 2.13m (6-11 ¾) to collect eight points for the Mavs. DeBerry – who has won the Sun Belt indoor high jump title each of the last two years – got over the 2.13m bar on his second attempt, but could not clear 2.16m (7-01) which would have set a PR and moved him into the top-5 in program history.
Â
MEN'S 1500M
Connor Butterfield claimed bronze in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.57, nearly two seconds clear of 4th place to tally six points.
Marquentin Barnes picked up two other points for the Mavs in the event as he crossed in 3:54.35.
Â
MEN'S 800M
In impressive form, Butterfield closed strong in the 800m to post another bronze medal as he took 3rd place in a time of 1:52.00 for six points only about one hour after he wrapped up the 1500m.
Victor Bocanegra added another point for the Mavs as he crossed in 1:55.65 for 8th place.
Â
MEN'S 110M HURDLES
Joel Bengtsson took bronze in the 110m hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.87. Had he not had the +2.5 m/s wind, Bengtsson's time would have shattered his previous PR of 14.10 and also been .01 shy of tying the 5th-fastest time in program history. However, he still wrapped up six points for the Mavs.
WOMEN'S 400M HURDLES
Shelby West established a PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.99 to take bronze and pick up six points for UTA.
Â

The men's 4x400m relay team clocked a season-best time of 3:17.54 to post a 5th-place finish and net four points. The women's 4x400m relay team also registered a season-best time of 3:46.41 to finish in 6th place and collect three points.
