NEW ORLEANS – Following the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, 14 UT Arlington student-athletes have been named all-conference performers.
Â
Below are those 14 Mavs who landed on either the First, Second or Third teams:
Â
First Team
Madeleine Rowe (1500m)
Lucas Van Klaveren (Decathlon)
Arthur Petersen (Javelin)
Â
Second Team
Abigail Kelly-Salo (Pole Vault)
Justin Domangue (3000m Steeplechase)
Bryson DeBerry (High Jump)
Cole Klashinsky (5000m)
Â
Third Team
Liv Cantby (Javelin)

Â
Below is more information about each of UTA's 14 recognitions, with the complete 2021 all-conference teams and superlative award winners included at the end of this release.
Â
FIRST TEAM MEMBERS
Madeleine Rowe: Came from behind to win the women's 1500m in convincing fashion with the 3rd-fastest time in program history at 4:26.28. That mark was nearly seven seconds better than the Arlington native's previous personal best, and almost nine seconds quicker than her qualifying time of 4:35.19.
Â
Lucas Van Klaveren: Broke a seven-year Sun Belt Outdoor Championship record with 7,322 points to win gold in the decathlon, surpassing the previous record of 7,292 by Ethan Turpen from Arkansas State in 2014. The personal-record setting performance moved Van Klaveren into 2nd on the UTA all-time list.
Arthur Petersen: Continued his domination of the men's javelin in the Sun Belt this year as the freshman delivered a distance of 71.29m (233-10) on his first attempt, and then did not make another throw and won by nearly five feet. Petersen – who holds the program's best-ever throw of 77.75m (255-01) – ranks 2nd in the nation in the javelin this year, only one inch behind the country's leader.
Â
SECOND TEAM MEMBERS
Abigail Kelly-Salo: Established the 4th-best women's pole vault in program history as she cleared 3.93m (12-10 ¾) to win silver. Kelly-Salo – whose previous PR was 3.88m (12-08 ¾) – and Lauren Beauchamp were the only two competitors to get over that 3.93m bar, but neither could clear 4.03m (13-02 ½); Beauchamp cleared 3.93m on her first try, whereas Kelly-Salo did so on her second attempt.
Â
Justin Domangue: Finished as UTA's most decorated competitor as he won three medals in three days, highlighted by a silver in the 3000m steeplechase (9:06.98). In his final outdoor conference championship, Domangue also earned a bronze in the 10000m, cutting two seconds off his previous best to establish a new PR with a time of 29:40.47 to remain 3rd on the all-time program list. He also claimed a bronze in the 5000m (14:22.83).
Â
Bryson DeBerry: Won silver in the high jump with a clearance of 2.13m (6-11 ¾). DeBerry – who has won the Sun Belt indoor high jump title each of the last two years – got over the 2.13m bar on his second attempt, but could not clear 2.16m (7-01) which would have set a PR and moved him into the top 5 in program history.
Â
Cole Klashinsky: Finished 2nd in the 5000m (14:22.01), barely out-crossing Domangue who was .82 of a second behind him as the duo secured 14 points in the race for the Mavs.
Â
THIRD TEAM MEMBERS
Liv Cantby: Delivered the 2nd-best women's javelin in program history as the freshman launched a throw of 48.64m (159-07) on her fourth attempt to surpass her own mark of 47.96m (157-04) set at the Texas Relays in March. The Denmark native put UTA's first points on the board of the championships as she finished 3rd in the event.
Â
Juleen Lewis: Finished 3rd in the women's long jump, claiming the bronze with a PR leap of 6.05m (19-10 ¼) to score six points for the Mavs.
Â
Calyha Brown: Delivered the 5th-best shot put in women's program history at 15.01m (49-03) to win bronze and deliver UTA six points. That mark was also a PR for the sophomore.
Â
Shelby West: Established a PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.99 to take bronze and pick up six points for UTA.
Â
Marquentin Barnes: Running the 3000m steeplechase for the first time, Barnes impressively finished 3rd in the event in a time of 9:10.27.
Â
Connor Butterfield: Claimed bronze in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.57, nearly two seconds clear of 4th place to tally six points. Impressively, Butterfield closed strong in the 800m to post another bronze medal as he took 3rd place in a time of 1:52.00 only about one hour after he wrapped up the 1500m.
Â
Joel Bengtsson: Took bronze in the 110m hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.87. Had he not had the +2.5 m/s wind, Bengtsson's time would have shattered his previous PR of 14.10 and also been .01 shy of tying the 5th-fastest time in program history.
