MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The UT Arlington baseball team will start their run for a Sun Belt championship on Thursday when they begin Pool Play in Pool D at the Sun Belt Tournament at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. The Mavericks will take on #5W Arkansas State on at 3 pm on Thursday with the winner advancing to the semi-finals, following a Red Wolves victory over the Troy on Tuesday afternoon. Every tournament game will streamed on ESPN+ and audio will be available on UTAMavs.com with Josh Sours on play-by-play.

UTA NOTES

• Carlos Tavera became the 5th Maverick to reach 100 strikeouts in a season. His 108 K's on the year put him 7 behind the record, set by Jason Mitchell in 2010
• The Mavericks return 90 percent of their innings pitched and 95 percent of their strikeouts from a season ago.
• Josh Minjarez is closing in on a couple records for UTA. Against McNeese State he broke the all-time games play record, appearing in his 231st career game. His mark of 246 games played is also the 3rd highest active mark in the country. Against McNeese State, he broke the at-bats record and now sits at 883. He has the 3rd most base hits (243), 4th most total bases (364), and 5th most home runs (25). Minjarez is also in 8th place in career doubles (40).
• A record three Mavericks were named All-Sun Belt. Carlos Tavera become the first pitcher to be named First Team starting pitcher, while Andrew Miller (Utility) and Dylan Paul (1B) garnered second team honors.
• Over the past 33 games, Andrew Miller is leading the team with a .382 batting average, .588 slugging percentage, 10 doubles and 33 RBI.  He is also second on the team in home runs.
• Connor Aube entered the season know for his ability to get on-base. While his batting average has dipped this season, he has career highs in home runs (10), RBI (38), and walks (16). He is just 8 bases away from breaking his total bases mark.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | ARKANSAS STATE

• The Red Wolves are coming off a 9-6 win over Troy on Tuesday, eliminating the Trojans from advancing in the Tournament and setting up a winner-take-all game for between the Mavericks and A-State on Thursday with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.
• Three Red Wolves are batting over .300 on the season, led by Liam Hicks' .346 average at the plate.
• Tyler Duncon is third on the team in batting average (.303), but has hit 10 home runs on the year and knocked in a team-high 53 runs. 
• Brandon Hudson will start in the winner-take-all game.  Hudson has a 4.67 ERA on the season in 9 starts and hows a 5-2 record.  
• Jack Jumper and Kollin Stone will like be seen out of the bullpen as the two relievers have all eight saves for the Red WOlves on the season.  Stone owns a 4.32 ERA, while Jumper owns a 5.35 ERA.

SERIES HISTORY
The Mavericks took the season series earlier this year two games to one in Jonesboro. In conference tournament games, the series is tied 1-1 with the Mavericks taking the last meeting in the 2018 SBC Tournament 5-4 in 10 innings.
