HOUSTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team completed the first two days of the Rice Invitational on Thursday and Friday in Houston the George R. Brown Tennis Center. They will conclude the event Saturday.

In doubles action, the Mavericks have had a successful weekend so far, going 7-2 overall for the Thursday and Friday matches.

On Thursday, Liz Chileno and Sarina Reinertsen teamed up and defeated Darya Schwartzman and Federica Trevisan from Rice 7-6, as well Sophie Schouten and Elena Trencheva from Houston in another close 7-6 match. The next day, they pulled out another tiebreaker win against Jacque Dunyon and Tina Li from Rice 7-6, making them 3-0 on the weekend so far.

Tara Gorinsek and Ana Paula Jimenez suffered a loss in their first doubles match, falling to Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi of Rice 6-2. They came back with a strong 6-2 win over Gabriela Cortes and B. Cortijo Parreno from Houston in their next match, and carried that momentum into Friday. The team continued to improve their performance, earning a tight 7-5 victory over Win Ka Lin and Helen Jiao from BYU.

Ioana Dumitrescu, Nika Novikova, and Bruna Casasampere have all teamed up at some point over the course of Thursday and Friday. Dumitrescu and Novikova lost their first match 7-5 to Marte Lambrecht and Saara Orav from Rice, but Casasampere and Dumitrescu came out victorious later that day against Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemonti from Houston, 6-3. Casasampere carried her winning streak into Friday, partnering up with Novikova and defeating Xenia de Luna and Avery Pope from BYU 6-1.

Casasampere has won both of her singles matches so far, beating Cortijo Parreno from Houston 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday before pulling out a tough 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 win against Schwartzman from Rice on Friday.

Reinertsen lost her Thursday singles match to Li from Brigham Young in three tight sets, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. She also lost to Budin from Rice 6-3, 6-4 on Friday. Gorinsek is also 0-2 in singles currently, suffering a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Jiao from BYU on Thursday and a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 loss to Trevisan from Rice on Friday.

Jimenez and Chileno suffered singles defeats as well. Jimenez lost 6-3, 6-3 to Dunyon from BYU and 6-4, 6-2 to El Jardi from Rice. Lin from BYU defeated Chileno 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday. Chileno played a tough three-set match on Friday, but fell short 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to Lambrecht from Rice. 

Novikova and Dumitrescu are also competing in singles. Novikova fell to Emmie Moore from BYU 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday and to Orav from Rice 6-2, 7-5 on Friday. Dumitrescu lost her Thursday match  6-4, 6-4 to De Luna from BYU before retiring from her Friday match against Manasi Reddy from Houston.

On Saturday the Mavericks will play six singles matches, with opponents from BYU and Houston.
