ARLINGTON – UT Arlington's Brandon Walker has been named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week after the Mavericks forward posted a pair of double-figure scoring performances, including helping UTA to a near upset win at LSU.
 
Over the course of two games last week, the 6-7 true freshman averaged 11 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot 48 percent (10-21) from the floor.
 
The Oak Cliff, Texas, native almost secured his first career double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds against Howard Payne on Monday, registering those totals in just 15 minutes of action off the bench as UTA claimed a dominant 99-41 victory.
 
He then followed it up at LSU on Friday night as the Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy product was one of only two UTA players to reach double-figure points as he notched 10 and also secured five rebounds – tying for the second most on the team. UTA held a lead against the SEC member with less than four minutes remaining, but fell just short in a narrow 63-59 setback.
 
Walker and the Mavs are back in action when they renew a local rivalry with North Texas at the College Park Center on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. More information about that game is included below:
