Women's Tennis Set to Battle SMU

DALLAS – The undefeated UT Arlington women's tennis team (9-0) will head to Dallas this weekend for a Sunday match against the SMU Mustangs at 5 pm.

The Mavericks have been winning at impressive numbers this season, going a combined 47-7 in singles dual matches.  Newcomers Tara Gorinsek (9-0), Sarina Reinertsen (8-0) and Ana Paula Jimenez (7-0) have all been key contributors early on in the season.

Liz Chileno (11-3) has split time at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions for the Mavericks, going a combined 6-1.  She lost her first match, but has bounced back and won the previous six matches.

In doubles competition, the Mavericks are equally impressive with a 17-3 record in dual play.  The Mavericks are 4-1 on court one, with Momoka Horiguchi hoisting a 4-0 record on the court.  Horiguchin has yet to lose a doubles match this season, going a perfect 8-0 on the year. She is 4-0 on court two to go along with her four wins on court one. Ana Paula Jimenez is 7-0 on court two this year, while Nika Novikova is 5-0 and Carla Pons is 5-1 on court three.

SCOUTING SMU
SMU is currently 5-3 on the season but has played a tough schedule this far with matches against #1 Texas (L, 0-4), #8 Texas A&M (L, 1-6), and #24 Baylor (L, 1-6).  The Mustangs hold a 13-5 record over the Mavericks in the all-time series, including winners of five straight. UTA is looking to take their first win over SMU since 2016 and their first in Dallas since 1999.

ON DECK
UThe Mavericks will return to the UTA Tennis Center next Saturday (March 5) for a morning match (10 am) against Houston.
