BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Jade Bontke capped off an incredible indoor season as she placed 13th in the country in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday morning inside the Birmingham SportsPlex.

"Jade competed well and it was a great experience for her," said Head Coach John Sauerhage. "She had a national meet now in the books and it will only make her better next time."

Bontke finished with 4,031 points against some of the best athletes in the world as she surely will garner All-American honors in the coming days.

Bontke's top performance came in the high jump on Friday morning as she placed fourth in the event with a jump of 1.75. She added a ninth place finish in the shot put at 11.95 and a 12th place finish in the 800 meter dash at 2:23.83.

Bontke added a 13th. place finish in the long jump at 5.69 and a 15th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.91.

Senior Lucas Van Klaveren put together his first day in the heptathlon as he finished ninth in the shot put (13.56), 12th in the high jump (1.94), 13th in the long jump (7.08), and 16th in the 60 meter dash (7.21).

Van Klaveren will return for day two of the heptathlon on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the 60 meter hurdles, the pole vault, and the 1000 meters remaining, while Bryson DeBerry will be in action in the high jump at 12:30 p.m.
