ARLINGTON – After a terrific first weekend to start the season, the UT Arlington track and field team will return to action on Saturday as they compete at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth.
The Mavericks come into the meet after earning three Sun Belt Athlete of the Week honors in
Arthur Petersen,
Liv Cantby, and
Tatyana Terrell.
All-American thrower Petersen made his season debut and started it with a bang. On his final throw of the day in the javelin at a dual with North Texas, he hit a mark of 73.36m/240-8, which is currently the top throw in the country. It was Petersen's second throw over 70 meters, as he hit 70.41 on his third attempt.
Cantby started her 2022 season with a win in the javelin at the North Texas Dual. She hit a mark of 49.89m/163-8, which currently stands as the top women's javelin throw mark in the nation.
Terrell opened her outdoor season at the North Texas Dual in Denton, Texas. She won the women's 200-meter dash in a time of 24.34 for a new outdoor PR. She also was victorious in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 55.69, currently fourth in the country.
Additionally, indoor All-Americans and national competitors
Bryson DeBerry,
Jade Bontke, and
Lucas Van Klaveren all will open their indoor season.
DeBerry placed ninth in the high jump at 2.15 meters and earned All-American honors for the second consecutive season. It is DeBerry's third All-American honor, earning second team during the outdoor championships last season, and first team a year ago at indoor.
Bontke placed 13th in the country in the pentathlon in the NCAA Championships and earned her first collegiate All-American honors.
Van Klaveren closed out the heptathlon with a 16th place finish in the national championship with 5,597 points to garner his first collegiate All-American honors.
