AUSTIN – The UT Arlington track and field team had several members establish personal records and a top-5 program mark highlighted the second day of action Thursday at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Â
Lucas Van Klaveren finished in 2nd place in the 400m hurdles timed final with a mark of 51.78 to deliver the highest finish of any Mav on Thursday.
Jade Bontke posted the 4th-best heptathlon total in program history as she also shattered a PR with 5,379 points.
Â
Below is more information about both of them and the rest of the Mavs who laced them up on Thursday.
Â
400M HURDLES TIMED FINAL
Van Klaveren destroyed his PR with a time of 51.78 to finish 2nd. That PR was nearly two seconds faster than his previous best, two seconds clear of the next-best time in the Sun Belt Conference this year and established the 9th-best mark in the NCAA West Region this year.
Â
HEPTATHLON
Bontke led things off on Thursday by posting the 4th-best heptathlon in program history, totaling 5,379 points to blow past her previous personal best by nearly 300 (5,097).
Â
Bontke's morning commenced with a 5.78m (18-11 ¾) mark on her final attempt in the long jump to notch 783 points – the 2nd-best long jump of her career. Next up was the javelin where Bontke delivered the 3rd-best throw of her career with a distance of 29.58m (97-0) to grab 469 more points.
Â
The final event was the 800m, and Bontke breezed her way to a PR of 2:18.63, six seconds better than her previous best to secure 842 more points and propel the Hillsboro native to her best-ever heptathlon performance.
Â
400M HURDLES PRELIMS
Shelby West delivered a season-best run and nearly established a PR as she crossed in 59.45, just slower than her best-ever of 59.26 set last year. The 59.45 was not enough to advance to Friday's finals, but did break her own conference-leading mark this season as West now holds the top time in the Sun Belt.
Â
1500M
In the Section A women's race,
Madeleine Rowe finished 7th with a time of 4:29.75 to mark a new season best in the young outdoor year. That time also established the 2nd-best 1500m time in the Sun Belt this season.
Â
In the Section B men's race,
Alfredo Corona clocked a 3:56.06, while freshman teammate Jeriel Algarin Marquez registered a 3:57.97. For Algarin Marquez, it was his first time competing in the 1500 at the collegiate level, while Corona now currently has the 4th-best time in the Sun Belt this year.
