UTA NOTES
  • UTA has lived off starting and ending strong so far this year.  Between the first three innings and final inning, the Mavericks have scored 24 out of the 48 runs this season.  12 of those runs have come in the 9th inning alone. UTA only scored 9 runs in the 9th inning for the entire 2021 season.
  • A few players have put together impressive on-base streaks early on in the season. Zach Henry has reached successfully in 9 straight games, while Wilson Galvan has reached 8 straight games.  Steven Saunders is riding a six-game hit streak - the second longest of the young season only to Galvan's 7, which ended on Sunday.
  • Freshman LHP Gray Bailey had a dominate first start against Northwestern State on Sunday, throwing 5.0 shutout innings against the Demons. He has been stout on the bump through four appearances, tossing 12.0 innings (7.0 in relief) while holding an ERA of 0.75 - second best on the team.  He is also second on the team with 10 strikeouts.
  • Freshman Zach Henry currently leads the Mavericks with a .355 batting average, but he has also been one of the hardest Mavericks to keep off the base. He has a .535 on-base percentage and currently averaging the 25th most walks per game in the NCAA (1.11) and leads the SBC in that category.
  • Relief pitcher Connery Peters has made five appearances for the Mavericks this season, tossing 6.0 innings.  He has yet to allow an earned run in any appearance and is holding opponents to a .154 batting average, and is third on the team with 10 strikeouts.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | ARMY

  • One area Army has excelled in has been the basepath. The Black Knights have 11 stolen bases on the season.
  • Army has held their own out of the bullpen this year with Trevor Finan and Brian Dawson leading the way. In four combined appearances, the two relievers have gone 8.1 innings and not allowed an earned run.
