WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field team returns to action on Friday and Saturday afternoon as they compete at the 2022 Michael Johnson Invitational at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
The entire team returns to the track after taking the week off minus
Jade Bontke and
Lucas Van Klaveren.
The multi stars come off an incredible showing at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Jade Bontke set a new school record in the heptathlon with 5,506 points, good for 25th in the country. Meanwhile, Van Klaveren crushed his personal best in the decathlon, going for 7,760 points, good for 11th in the country and the second best point total of all time.
Both Bontke and Van Klaveren will be in action this weekend with Bontke scheduled for three events and Van Klaveren focusing on two events.
Bontke enters 34th in the nation in the 4x400 with
Vanessa Ugorji,
Tatyana Terrell, and
Shelby West at 3:38.07.
Iyana Gray is locked and ready as she continues her amazing rookie season, coming in at 44th in the nation in the 100 meter dash at 11.43. Additionally, Gray joins
Madison Pippins, Terrell, and Ugorji in the 4x100 at 44.93, good for 34th in the nation.
Liv Cantby looks to conitnue to roll in the javelin as she sits 28th in the nation with a throw of 49.89.
The UTA men sit 32nd in the nation as three individuals join Van Klaveren in the top 11 in the nation in their respective events with
Bryson DeBerry in fifth in the high jump at 2.21m,
Joel Bengtsson sixth in the 110m hurdles at 13:54, and
Arthur Petersen in seventh in the javelin at 73.36m. All three will be in action in their events this weekend and looking to improve on their rankings.
Marvin Walford returns to action this weekend and he also entered the national picture at the UNT classic as he sits 49th in the country at 15.35 in the triple jump.
UT Arlington comes in with 91 entries throughout the two day events. Things get rolling with field events on Friday beginning at 12 p.m. and follow with 6 p.m.
