PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The UT Arlington women's tennis team will await the winner of (6) Troy and (11) Arkansas State at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Friday at 1 p.m.
The Mavericks swept Troy earlier this season in Arlington and defeated Arkansas State in the final match of the season 4-1 in Jonesboro.
UTA features three SBC All-Conference players in
Liz Chileno,
Sarina Reinertsen and
Tara Gorinsek while also boasting the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in
Diego Benitez.
Reinertsen and Gorinsek are both undefeated this spring with a combined 34-0 record in dual matches. Fellow freshman,
Ana Paula Jimenez, has been equally impressive sporting a 19-1 record.
UTA has been nearly unstoppable in Sun Belt play, winning 85.7 percent of their dual singles matches with a 30-5 record. That mark helped the Mavericks capture their perfect Sun Belt regular season.
In doubles competition,
Liz Chileno and
Ana Paula Jimenez hold a team-best 12-1 record as the pair has held down court two for the Mavericks. The tandem has won six SBC matches against their one loss in league play.
UTA is looking to advance to the Sun Belt semifinals for a third consecutive season. The Mavericks were defeated by Georgia Southern in the semi-finals in the past two Sun Belt tournaments. The Mavericks have not won the Sun Belt Tournament Championship, making the finals in 2015, but falling to South Alabama 4-3.
Fans will have a few options on how to follow along with the match. All matches will be aired on ESPN+ this year and the Sun Belt will provide live stats for the matches, as well.
