Box Score PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The UT Arlington women's tennis team punched its ticket to the Sun Belt Conference Championship game with a 4-2 win over #3 Georgia State on Saturday at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek were the first to finish in doubles action, taking court one 6-3 to put the Mavericks a point away from gaining the early advantage.
Sarina Reinertsen and
Carla Pons fell in a hard-fought battle on court three 7-6. After trailing 6-5 on court two,
Liz Chileno and
Ana Paula Jimenez won the final two points to clinch the doubles point for the Mavericks, 7-6.
Sarina Reinertsen continued the momentum with a straight set win on court five, 6-2, 6-2 to put the Mavs up two points. However, the Panthers would respond after taking courts three and four over the Mavericks.
Tara Gorinsek lost 6-3, 6-2 on court four, while
Carla Pons fell 7-5 on court three.
Ana Paula Jimenez would put the Mavericks just one point away from a match win with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six.
After dropping the first set 6-7 (5-7),
Momoka Horiguchi battled back on court two to take the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the match point and send the Mavericks to the Sun Belt Conference Championship match.
UTA will play for the title tomorrow (April 24) at 12 p.m. against top-seeded South Alabama.
