LAFAYETTE, La. – The UT Arlington baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday at M.L. Tigue Moore Field as the Cajuns claimed the weekend series over the Mavericks.

Michael Wong (L, 1-5) tossed 6.2 innings in the loss and struck out a career-high seven batters including five through the first four innings. Matt Novis threw the final 1.1. scoreless innings and struck out three batters.

UTA finished with seven hits on the night, led by Steven Saunders (2-for-3, 2 RBI). Zach Henry scored twice, while Oscar Ponce made the most of his lone at-bat, coming through with an RBI.

After two scoreless innings, the Mavericks got things going in the third inning. Getting runners and first and second due to a single and hit-by-pitch, Steven Saunders brought them home with a triple past the outstretched glove of a diving right fielder.

A leadoff double in the fifth began a four-hit inning for the Cajuns as Louisiana was able to plate two runs and even the score at two.

The scoring continued an inning later as the Cajun's bats began to heat up, adding three more hits and two runs to take the lead over the Mavericks.

The Mavericks got one back with a short two-out rally. A single and error put Zach Henry at second base before Oscar Ponce pinch hit and drove in Henry for the third run of the day for UTA.

UTA will look to end on a positive note as they finish the series tomorrow (May 8) at 1 p.m. against the Cajuns.
