ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball program has announced the addition of Ashleigh Sgambelluri who spent four seasons at Texas A&M- Corpus Christi.
The senior carried a .321 batting average – second highest on the team – for the Islanders in the 2022 season as she started in 26 games. The shortstop held a .267 career average over her four-year career at TAMU-CC with a .328 career on-base percentage.
Sgambelluri is coming back home to the Arlington area as she attended Arlington Heights High School where she lettered each year for the Yellow Jackets. The senior earned First Team All-District honors and school MVP recognition in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She also led the Yellow Jackets to a 10-2 record in district before helping the squad to a perfect 12-0 mark. Sgambelluri was a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Ann Brannon Award for academic achievement.

AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR AT TAMU-CC (2022)
Started in all 26 games she played in ... was injured for a few weeks in the middle of the season ... ended the season with a .321 overall average and a .326 in conference ... registered 25 hits, 15 runs and 10 RBIs ... tallied five doubles ... hit her first triple and home run in the season series against UIW ... every run she scored was against a conference opponent ... notched six multi-hit games including when she went 4-for-4 at Nicholls.
AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE AT TAMU-CC (2021)
The only student-athlete to start in all 48 games on the year... second on the team with a .317 batting average... tallied 25 runs, 25 RBIs, six doubles, a triple, two homers and 14 stolen bases... notched 11 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI performances... went on a team-long 11-game hitting-streak and 15-game reached base safely streak... etched a .805 OPS... recorded three hits in a win over Lamar... homered against Kansas and UT Arlington... went 2-for-2 with a double and triple in a victory over Tarleton State... knocked a hit in each game in the final series of the year versus Abilene Christian... hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning to beat Houston Baptist in a come-from-behind win... turned five double plays in the field and registered 88 assists and 75 putouts at shortstop... was named the Female Breakthrough Player of the Year at the 2021 Islanders Blue Carpet Awards banquet.
AS A SOPHOMORE AT TAMU-CC (2020) *season ended early due to world-wide coronavirus pandemic
Played in 13 games with 11 starts in a shortened 2020 season ... batted .242 with eight hits, three doubles three RBI and one homerun ... recorded a perfect fielding percentage from second base.
AS A FRESHMAN AT TAMU-CC (2019)
Appeared and started 45 games ... recorded 21 hits on the year including a pair of doubles and a triple ... scored nine runs and drove in six ... drew four walks and was hit by three pitches ... a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts ... recorded 78 putouts with 84 assists at short ... had four multi-hit games ... was 2-for-2 with a run scored, two stolen bases and a walk in her collegiate debut against Fordham (2/8).
