INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freshman
Iyana Gray moved into the top five in the world among athletes under 20 years old in the 100 and 200 meter dash, according to World Athletics timing.
Gray has made massive waves all year as she broke three school records at the NCAA West Prelims in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and as a part of the 4x100 meter while earning two nods into nationals. Gray absolutely crushed the school record in the 200 meter dash and become the first female in school history to go sub 23 second, running a blistering 22.78 to earn an 11th place finish and punch her ticket individually to Eugene and good for fifth in the nation.
In the ultra-competitive 100 meter dash, Gray just narrowly missed the cut for nationals, but still put together an absolutely blazing time at 11.15, rolling past the school record and earning a 14th place finish, also good for fifth in the world.
Gray, along with teammates
Tatyana Terrell,
Vanessa Ugorji, and
Adeyemi Talabi raced to a school record 44.36 in the 4x100, a record they have been aiming for all season long, and finished 10th overall to punch their ticket on to Eugene.
During the indoor season, Gray earned the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Freshman of the Year after an outstanding start to her college career in the orange and blue. She is a four-time All-SBC selection already and looks to add All-American to her resume this upcoming week.
Gray, along with eight of her teammates, will compete at the highest of levels at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon from June 8-11.
