Hernandez Elevated to Director of Player Development

ARLINGTON - Head coach Shereka Wright has promoted former Lady Mav Jordynn Hernandez to Director of Player Development with the UT Arlington women's basketball program.

"I'm so proud of the commitment and growth that Jordynn has shown in the last year," said Wright. "It was a no brainer for me when it came to who I was going to hire for this position. Jordynn is hardworking and committed to developing the young women in our program. She knows what it means to wear a Lady Mav uniform and to receive to a degree from UT-Arlington. This is big hire for our program and the position will help prepare Jordynn to become a future coach soon."

Hernandez served as the Lady Mavs graduate assistant during the 2021-22 season. She was a vital point to the team's success as UTA won the Sun Belt Tournament Championship this past March in its final year in the conference. The Lady Mavs finished with a 20-8 record and nearly upset No. 3 seed Iowa State on its home floor in the NCAA Tournament. UTA will go on to the Western Athletic Conference this upcoming season.

Prior to moving to coaching, Hernandez, a native of McKinney, spent two seasons as a student-athlete for the Lady Mavs. A transfer from Collin College, Hernandez sat out the entire 2019-20 season due to injury and played in 13 games, making 12 starts, in 2020-21 before a knee injury ended her season. In 2020-21, Hernandez averaged 8.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals, while shooting 80.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Hernandez was selected to participate in the 2021 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "So You Want To Be A Coach" program. During the WBCA's one-day online workshop (March 30), she was able to learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and how to balance work and life.
