Mansfield Native, Michigan State Transfer Landon Ernst Signs With Men’s Golf

ARLINGTON – Mansfield native and former Michigan State and Arkansas product Landon Ernst has signed with the UT Arlington men's golf team.

A 2017 Mansfield High School graduate, Ernst played in seven tournaments as a true freshman at Arkansas in 2017-18, finishing with a 75.3 scoring average and a season-best finish of a tie for 10th.

After not seeing any action in 2018-19, Ernst transferred to Michigan State for a redshirt sophomore campaign in 2019-20 where he appeared in six events. He recorded a 75.6 scoring average and posted a best round of 69 at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate that October.

Ernst – who roomed with 2021 U.S. Amateur Champion James Piot at Michigan State – has been named an Academic All-Big Ten selection each of the past two years and also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021 as a communication major.

"We expect Landon to be a big part of our 2022-23 team," stated UTA head men's golf coach Casey Devoll. "He's only got one year of collegiate golf left, and he's going to give it everything he has both on and off the course. Landon has seen and been around a lot of great golf at high levels, and he'll be a key asset for our guys in the locker room as well. He's a local product who already knows the majority of his teammates, so he'll fit in right away."

Coming out of Mansfield High, Ernst was ranked No. 92 in the Class of 2017 by Golfweek.com after being a four-time all-district performer and three-time all-region honoree. A 6A All-State Team member as well, he led Mansfield to a runner-up finish at the 2016 State Tournament with a 4th-place individual finish.

Ernst becomes the second Mansfield High product to sign with UTA in this recruiting class. In November, Cameron Beck inked his National Letter of Intent to join the Mavericks as a freshman this fall. Click here for more information about Beck.
