Jimenez and Reinertsen earn multiple wins in ITA Regional event

Box Score WACO, TEXAS --- The UT Arlington women's tennis team made a strong showing in singles and doubles play at the ITA Regional tournament at the Hurd Tennis Center this weekend, going 10-6 in singles with Ana Paula Jimenez winning the consolation bracket.
 
Jimenez dropped a close first-round main draw match in straight sets to UTSA's Fatima Gutierrez 6-4, 7-5. In her first round of consolation, she won by retirement in order to move to the Round of 16. She then earned a big win over Texas A&M's Sydney Fitch in a deciding-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. 
 
In her quarterfinal match, Jimenez took out Rice's Chie Kezuka 6-1, 7-5. She earned another strong straight-set win in her semifinal match over SMU's Caroline McGinley 6-3, 6-1 to move on to the championship. She finished with a solid win over another Aggie, defeating Gianna Pielet 6-3, 6-4 to claim the consolation title.
 
Nika Novikova, Bruna Casasampere, and Francisca Vergara competed in the qualifying draw on Thursday, with Novikova making it to the Round of 32 and Casasampere winning her consolation match. 
 
Novikova defeated Texas A&M- Corpus Christi's Kateryna Rublevska 6-3, 6-2 before falling to UNT's Carolina Laydner 6-2, 7-5. After losing her first round, Casasampere came back with a strong deciding-set tiebreaker win over Texas A&M- Corpus Christi's Palina Saulevich 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
 
Tara Gorinsek and Sarina Reinertsen competed in the main draw, with Gorinsek making it to the Round of 32 and Reinertsen to the Round of 16. 
 
Gorinsek defeated Texas A&M's Lizanne Boyer in her first round, allowing only two games for the 6-2, 6-0 win. Reinertsen earned a close, three-set win over Texas Tech's Yekaterina Dmitrichenko 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. She followed up with another win in the deciding set in her next round, knocking off Divna Ratkovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the Round of 16, Texas' Charlotte Chavatipon was too much to overcome, defeating Reinertsen 6-1, 6-4 to end her run.
 
The Mavericks went 4-4 in doubles play, with Gorinsek and Jimenez earning two wins before falling in the third round. They defeated Prairie View A&M's Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo and Ainara Vegal Rodriguez 8-3 in their first round. In the next round, the pair took out Rice's Federica Trevisan and Kezuka in a close tiebreaker 8-7 (5). Gorinsek and Jimenez fell in the Round of 16 in another tiebreaker to Texas Tech's Cristina Tiglea and Mariya Polischuk 8-7 (2) to conclude their weekend.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action on Nov. 6 to compete in the Rice Invitational for their final event of the fall season.
