ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams kicked off the outdoor season at Maverick Stadium with the UTA Invitational.
The men's and women's 4x100m relay teams started the day with first-place finishes. First-leg
Madison Pippins had a stellar start out of the blocks handing off the
Diamond Mathis followed by
Tatyana Terrell.
Mikeya Washington closed the race with a 20-meter lead earning the team a time of 45.83.
Jarvis Miles,
Khalid Mendez,
DaVontay Kennedy and
Adam Herrera battled against a stacked field with a photo-finish win and a time of 41.19.
Freshman
Krianne McBride had a fantastic start to her outdoor collegiate career with two personal records. She placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:15.94 and 5th in the 1500m with a time of 4:49.09.
In the men's 1500m,
Jacob Ye finished 3rd with a time of 3:57.65. Not far behind was
Rogelio Aguirre in 4th place with a PR of 3:58.20. Later in the day, Ye placed 7th in the 800m with a PR of 1:56.47 not far behind
Jackson Cichon who placed 3rd with a time of 1:51.67.
The women swept the 100m dash with
Madison Pippins placing 1st with a time of 11.60,
Adeyemi Talabi in 2nd with a time of 11.63,
Mikeya Washington in 3rd with a time of 11.64 and
Tatyana Terrell in 4th with a time of 11.66.
DaVontay Kennedy nearly missed a win in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.657 and just short of the first-place time of 10.651.
Freshmen
Zaire Moore and
Glodis Thuridardottir dominate the women's 100m hurdles. Moore placed first with a PR of 14.18 and Thuridardottir in 2nd with a PR of 14.73. Shelby west was close behind in 4th place and a time of 15.25. West would later go on the win the 400m hurdles by a landslide with a time of 1:01.67.
Jarvis Miles finishes 1st in the men's 400m dash with a time of 48.51 and
Khalid Mendez set a PR of 48.84 for a 4th place finish.
Claire Compher set a PR of 10:18.61 for a 2nd place finish in the women's 3000m.
In the women's long jump, freshman
Faith Shaw earned a first-place finish with a winning mark of 5.60m.
Glodis Thuridardottir placed 3rd with a personal best mark of 5.28m and would later set another PR in the shot put with a throw of 11.61m.
Obi Ugwu finishes 2nd in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.53m and again in the triple jump with a PR of 14.55m.
Marvin Walford also competed in the triple jump and finished first with a winning mark of 14.63.
Simona Cabella soared to first place in the women's pole vault with a final clearance at 3.70m. In the men's competition,
Randon Gray placed 3rd with a clearance of 4.76 and not far behind was
Trenton Whitworth in 4th place and a PR of 4.46m.
McKinley Novacek placed 2nd in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.64 and
Demaya Malone was close behind in 3rd place with at 1.54m.
Calen Jones placed 2nd in the men's high jump at 2.00m and right behind was
Erlend Raa in 4th at 1.95m.
Other Notable Performances:
- Freshman Scarlett Johnson with a PR of 4:59.41 in the 1500m and a PR in the 3000m with a time of 10:57.13
- Freshman Racheal Hartley with a PR in the 1500m with a time of 5:02.02
- Mckinley Novacek set a PR in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.98
- Julia Glenn set a PR in the 400m with a time of 1:04.49
- Devien Davis set a PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.27
- Robert Griffin set a PR in the 400m with a time of 55.03
The Mavericks ended the day with two more 1st place finishes in the 4x400m relays with
Zaire Moore,
Shelby West,
Glodis Thuridardottir and
Tatyana Terrell finishing with a time of 3:48.13 in the women's event.
Devien Davis,
Jackson Cichon,
Khalid Mendez and
Jarvis Miles closed the last running event of the day with a time of 3:17.95.
