ARLINGTON, Texas – The 2023 NCAA Division 1 Indoor Track and Field All American honors were announced Monday, March 13, by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The UT Arlington Mavericks were represented by
Joel Bengtsson who was named an All American – Second Team for his performance at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, clocking the 2nd-fastest time of his career in the 60m hurdles prelims.
Going up against one of the deepest hurdles fields in recent years, Bengtsson ran a 7.70 inside the Albuquerque Convention Cernter, just shy of his personal best of 7.68.
Wrapping up his indoor career, Bengtsson was crowned the 2023 WAC Indoor Champion, breaking a 25-year-old WAC record in route to the title to punch his ticket to Nationals. He broke his own school record he set last season, clocking the 7.68 in the WAC Championships.
In his indoor career, Bengtsson, a senior from Landskrona, Sweden, was also the 2020 and 2021 Sun Belt Conference champion in the 60m hurdles.
Bengtsson now sets his eyes on winning a national championship during the outdoor season.
