ARLINGTON, Texas – After a fantastic first weekend to start the outdoor season, the UT Arlington track and field team will return to action this Friday and Saturday as they compete at the TCU Alumni Invite in Fort Worth.
The meet begins on Friday, March 17, with throwing events (men and women's hammer, men and women's discuss) beginning at noon. It will conclude on Saturday, March 18, with field and running events, beginning with the women's high jump starting at 10:30 a.m. and concluding with the women and men's 4x400 meter relay starting at 3:45 p.m.
The Mavericks come into the meet after a plethora of first place finishes at the UT Arlington Invitational and are looking to continue that trend in Fort Worth.
The women and men's 4x100 meter relay teams started their season's off with a bang, taking the top spot and having a top two time in the WAC. The women consisting of
Madison Pippins,
Diamond Mathis,
Tatyana Terrell, and
Mikeya Washington finished with a time of 45.83 while the men consisting of
Jarvis Miles,
Khalid Mendez,
DaVontay Kennedy and
Adam Herrera finished with a time of 41.19.
In the women's 100-meter dash, it was a clean sweep for the Mavericks with
Madison Pippins placing 1st with a time of 11.60,
Adeyemi Talabi in 2nd with a time of 11.63,
Mikeya Washington in 3rd with a time of 11.64 and
Tatyana Terrell in 4th with a time of 11.66.
Several freshmen began their outdoor careers with top marks, such as
Krianne McBride in the women's 800-meters with a 1st place finish with a time of 2:15.94, the current top time in the WAC. In the women's 100-meter hurdles,
Zaire Moore took 1st place with a PR of 14.73, the 3rd fastest time in the WAC and 11th nationally while
Glodis Thuridardottir finished 2nd with a PR of 14.73, good for 8th in the WAC.
Faith Shaw took 1st in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.60m, currently tied for 4th in the WAC and 20th nationally.
In the women's pole vault,
Simona Cabella soared to a 1st place finish with a final clearance of 3.70m, the top mark in the WAC and tied for 16th nationally.
The men and women's 4x400 meter relay teams capped off the first outdoor meet with 1st place finishes. The women's team, consisting of
Zaire Moore,
Shelby West,
Glodis Thuridardottir and
Tatyana Terrell, finished with a time of 3:48.13 while the men's team, consisting of
Devien Davis,
Jackson Cichon,
Khalid Mendez and
Jarvis Miles, finished with a time of 3:17.95.
Additionally, indoor All-American and national competitor
Joel Bengtsson will open his indoor season.
Bengtsson placed 11th in the country in the men's 60-meter hurdles and earned his first collegiate indoor All-American honor.
