ARLINGTON, Texas– The top-seeded UT Arlington women's tennis team (17-3) will host No. 8 Sam Houston (5-12) at noon on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Mavericks, who earned the top seed after securing their third-consecutive regular season conference title against Stephen F. Austin on April 16, would advance with a win to face the winner of No. 4 Grand Canyon and No. 5 Abilene Christian in the semifinals on Friday at 9 a.m. The championship is slated for Saturday at the same time.
The entirety of the tournament will be held at the Arlington Tennis Center with admission free to the public. In case of rain, an alternative location will be announced at UTAmavs.com and on our social media accounts.

In the regular season matchup against Sam Houston, the Mavericks didn't drop a point en route to a 7-0 win at the UTA Tennis Center. In a close match against the Lopes, the Mavs defeated GCU 4-3 after securing the 5-2 win over Abilene Christian in their first conference match of the season. UTA's only conference loss to the regular season came to Seattle U.
Senior
Liz Chileno has been solid at the No. 1 position for the Mavs, holding a 12-6 overall record. In her recent matchup against Sam Houston, she defeated Paula Cerda in straight sets to secure the sweep. Additionally, she has partnered with
Sarina Reinertsen to go 13-3 in doubles, including an undefeated 7-0 WAC slate, which included a 6-1 win over Sam Houston in the regular season.
Ana Paula Jimenez went undefeated in conference matches, dropping only one set in all nine matches. She is 16-1 in dual singles matches this year, including a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sam Houston's Aaliyah Hohmann.
Reinertsen and
Francisca Vergara are heading into the tournament with 8-1 singles records in conference play. Both defeated their opponents from Sam Houston in straight sets on Courts 3 and 6.
Tara Gorinsek dropped only two matches in WAC play at the No. 2 position for the Mavericks. In their last matchup, she defeated Sam Houston's Anastasia Khokhlova in a third-set tiebreaker to secure the sweep.
