ABILENE, Texas – The Mavericks ended their regular season schedule at the Oliver Jackson Twilight with several top-five finishes as well as a school record falling on Thursday at Elmer Gray Stadium.
Madison Pippins led the way for the Mavs with two outdoor collegiate personal bests for two top finishes. In the women's 100-meter dash, Pippins clocked in a time of 11.49 and a 1st place finish. She has the second fastest time in the WAC after today. In the women's 200-meter dash, Pippins finished 2nd overall with a new collegiate PR of 23.76, fourth fastest time in the conference.
Josh Hoekendorf broke his school record in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 56.83-meters. This was good for a 2nd place finish.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Lucas Van Klaveren claimed the top spot on the podium with a time of 53.54. This moves him into fourth in the current WAC standings.
Shelby West brought home the gold in the women's 400-meter hurdles. West clocked in with a time of 1:00.33 to claim the top spot.
Freshman
Calen Jones continues to impress as one of the top jumpers in the WAC. With a clearance of 2.05-meters, Jones claimed a 1st place finish in the men's high jump, nearly besting his PR. Currently sits in fifth in the WAC standings.
Alfredo Corona claimed his second 1st place finish of the outdoor season in the men's 1500-meter run. Clocking in with a time of 3:55.63, Corona earned himself the top spot on the podium.
In the men's 5000-meter run,
Tanner Henderson finishes with a time of 15:09.97 for a 1st place finish.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Zaire Moore finished 3rd in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.98. Also posted an outdoor collegiate PR in the women's 400-meters with a time of 57.75.
- Mikeya Washington posted a time of 11.70 in the women's 100-meter dash for a 2nd place finish.
- Adeyemi Talabi finished 3rd in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.78.
- In the men's 800-meters, Jackson Cichon finished 2nd with a time of 1:51.28.
- Malaiya Jedkins finished 2nd in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.56-meters. Also posted a new outdoor collegiate best in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.74-meters, good for a 6th place finish.
- Abigail Flores claimed a 3rd place finish in the women's discus throw with a mark of 47.68-meters. Also finished 4th in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 46.64-meters.
- In the women's 5000-meters, Racheal Hartley clocked in with a time of 18:50.80 and a 2nd place finish.
- Simona Cabella finished 2nd in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.83-meters.
- McKinley Novacek posted an outdoor collegiate PR in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.68-meters, good for a 3rd place finish. Also posted a new PR in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.76-meters and a 4th place finish.
NEXT UP
The Mavs will begin preparing for the WAC Outdoor Championships. The meet will begin on Thursday, May 11, and conclude on Saturday, May 13, from Nacogdoches, Texas.
