Big Day At The North Texas Classic For Track & Field

DENTON, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams had themselves a day with several top finishes and personal records set at the North Texas Classic hosted by the Mean Green of North Texas.
 
Josh Hoekendorf got things started off with a bang for the Mavs, breaking the school outdoor record in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 55.55 meters. It's a new collegiate personal record for the sophomore from Parker, Colorado and earned him a second-place finish, his highest finish of the season.
 
It was a clean sweep in the 4x100 meter relay for the Mavericks. The women's 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Tatyana Terrell, Mikeya Washington, Madison Pippins, and Faith Shaw, provided the Mavs with a first-place finish. The quartet finished with a season's best time of 44.73. The men's 4x100 meter relay team made up of Adam Herrera, Jarvis Miles, DaVontay Kennedy, and Khalid Mendez claimed another first-place finish for UTA.
 
In the men's triple jump, senior Marvin Walford finished with a jump of 14.68 meters to claim a first-place finish. This is his second first-place finish of the outdoor season and his furthest jump of the season so far.
 
Freshman Zaire Moore took the top spot in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a collegiate personal best and season's best time of 13.94. It's her third time running the event this outdoor season. She also posted a collegiate personal record in the women's 100-meter hurdles finals with a time of 13.94 for a third-place finish.
 
Calen Jones won the gold in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.06 meters. That height marks a new outdoor collegiate personal best for the freshman. 
 
In the men's 800-meter run, Jackson Cichon finished in first with a time of 1:51.90. It's his second fastest time of the outdoor season.
 
Jeriel Algarin Marquez took the top spot in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 3:55.49, his second fastest time of the season. He also set a new collegiate personal record in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.48.
 
In the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, Tanner Henderson claimed a first-place finish with a time of 9:49.55. It's his fastest time of the 2023 outdoor season in the event.
 
Other Notable Performances:
  • Racheal Hartley finished in second in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18:41.81, which is a new outdoor collegiate personal best.
  • Malaiya Jedkins claimed silver in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.35 meters.
  • In the men's 400-meter dash, Jarvis Miles finished in third with a time of 47.87. Not far behind, Adam Herrera came in seventh with a time of 48.27, a new collegiate outdoor personal best.
  • Madison Pippins finished the women's 100-meter dash on a strong note which resulted in a third-place finish with a time of 11.73. In the preliminary round, she posted a time of 11.57 which is a new collegiate outdoor personal best.
  • Khalid Mendez came in second place in the men's 100-meter dash with a season's best time of 10.48. Also, in the men's 200-meter dash, Mendez came in second place with a time of 21.33.
  • In the women's 800-meter run, Krianne McBride came in second place with a time of 2:15.76. She also set a new collegiate personal best in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:46.05.
  • Shelby West finished in third place in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.71.
  • In the men's shot put, Tres Rodriguez came in second place with a throw of 15.77 meters.
  • Abigail Flores took second place in the women's discus throw with a mark of 47.92 meters.
  • Erlend Raa takes third place in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters.

The Mavs travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to compete in the Carl Knight Invite hosted by Stephen F. Austin on Friday, April 14, and runs through Saturday, April 15.
