ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team is set to open their 2024 spring season against Prairie View A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
The 2023 WAC Regular Season champions are coming off a strong fall season, where five players ended with winning singles records.
Ana Paula Jimenez finished her fall season with a strong 10-4 record, earning wins over players from Houston, Air Force, Texas A&M, SMU and Rice. She took home the consolation bracket title in the ITA Regional Tournament in October, defeating Texas A&M's Sydney Fitch in a tiebreaker.
Sarina Reinertsen also posted a strong showing this fall, going 9-4 in singles matches and making it to the championship of her flight at the Diving Eagle Invite in September. She earned wins over UNT, Rice and Air Force in the fall, as well as a strong three-set win over Texas Tech's Yekaterina Dmitrichenko in October. She also made the Round of 16 in the ITA Regional Event.
Bruna Casasampere and
Tara Gorinsek also ended the fall with winning records. Casasampere finished 6-4 overall, earning notable wins over Air Force and Houston. Gorinsek finished 4-1, which includes wins over Air Force, Houston and Rice. She also defeated Texas A&M's Lizanne Boyer 6-2, 6-0 in October.
In doubles action, Gorinsek and Jimenez posted a winning 3-2 record as a pair along with
Francisca Vergara and Reinertsen. Both teams earned strong wins over Air Force and Rice in the Houston Invitational in September.
SCOUTING PRAIRIE VIEW
The Panthers are 0-2 on the fall season, with both losses against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. The Mavericks are undefeated against the Panthers, having won every match since 2017. In 2023, the Mavs earned a 7-0 sweep.
