HOUSTON – The UT Arlington track and field team concluded their second indoor meet of the season at the Robert Platt Invitational, highlighted by multiple indoor personal records, as well as six top-3 finishes.
To open up the meet,
Brady Shadrick concluded his final three events of the heptathlon with a 60m hurdles time of 8.36s, good for 829 points to keep him in 5th place. In the pole vault, he accomplished an indoor PR of 1.65m to gain 804 points to jump to 4th in the rankings with just one event to go. In the 1000m, Shadrick gave his all, securing another indoor PR with a time of 3:05.45s. He finished 5th with 5177 points, a new PR by over 400 points. With his performance, he now ranks 5th in UTA history for points scored in a heptathlon, he also currently ranks 1st in the WAC rankings.
Kaliah Jones accomplished a 1.70m leap in the women's high jump, that mark was good enough to finish T-2nd. Currently, she ranks T-4th in the WAC rankings this season.
In the women's 3000m,
Matro Jepkemboi shined once more with a blazing time of 9:51.54s, breaking her own indoor personal record. Her improved time still sits 2nd in the UTA record books for the indoor event.
Randon Gray placed 3rd and had an indoor PR in the men's pole vault with a mark of 5.05m. His leap is currently T-2nd in the WAC rankings.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay team consisting of
Javaris Bonner,
Adam Herrera,
Devien Davis and
Jarvis Miles, took home 1st place with a mark of 3:14.23s. The season-best time from the foursome is currently the 3rd fastest time in the WAC.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH
"Went very well today, and a lot of good things happened" said head coach
John Sauerhage. "Our men's relay team has a lot of great options that give us plenty to work with in terms of different combinations."
With the next meet in just under two weeks, Sauerhage added that "We were very well rounded today, the meet featured plenty of indoor personal records, and I believe we are capable of putting together an even better team effort when we head to Lubbock."
ADDITIONAL INDOOR PRS AND TOP-10 FINISHES
- In their heptathlon debuts, Levi Bontke finished 8th with a total of 4995 points. His twin brother, Luke Bontke, placed 9th, accumulating 4915 points throughout the seven events. The twins currently rank 2nd and 3rd in the WAC rankings for the men's indoor heptathlon this season.
- In the 1 mile run, Jackson Cichon placed 4th with a pace of 4:12.56s
- Mikeya Washington placed 4th in a loaded 60m field with a time of 7.47, .02 shy of matching her indoor PR.
- Winnie Kipsang claimed 4th in the women's 800m with a pace of 2:11.65, an indoor PR.
- In the men's 800m, Jackson Cichon placed 5th, while Daniel Armstrong finished in 6th, just .05s behind his teammate. Armstrong waxed his previous indoor PR mark by over 2 seconds, with a time of 1:52.86s.
- Alexis Cain ran the 200m in 24.71s, besting her previous indoor PR.
- In the women's long jump, Princess Miller (5.35m) and McKinley Novacek (5.82m) claimed a new indoor PR.
- Desmond Frazier finished 6th in the men's shot put with a 16.11m toss, while Hayden Wilson positioned himself for a 7th place finish with an indoor PR mark of 15.90m.
- In the men's 200m, DaVontay Kennedy placed 6th with a mark of 21.70s, tied for the 5th fastest in the WAC. Additionally in the 200m, Jayden Blakey, Adam Herrera, Cameron Macon and Eli England recorded indoor PRs.
- Zion Allen produced a 6.47m leap in the men's long jump for an indoor collegiate PR.
- With a 4.75m leap in the men's pole vault, Scott Frazier secured an indoor PR.
