LUBBOCK, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field team concluded the Jarvis Scott Invitational and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with multiple personal records, including three top-3 finishes throughout the meet.
Winnie Kipsang claimed another podium this afternoon, placing 1st in the women's mile. Her 4:52.69s pace currently ranks 2nd in the WAC standings. Incredibly, this was the freshman's first time participating in the event, her debut mark sits as the 4th fastest in UTA history in the indoor event.
OUT TO BOSTON
At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational,
Jackson Cichon and
Alfredo Reina Corona competed in the men's mile. Starting in the 14th heat, the pair put forward an excellent display of racing, both acquiring indoor PRs. Corona, running a pace of 4:06.76s, produced the 2nd fastest time in school history during the event. Cichon, a native of Mansfield, Texas, also etched his name in school history running a mark of 4:07.34s. His time ranks 4th all time in UTA history. The duo currently sits 5th and 7th in the WAC rankings.

opportunities in almost all event areas. I'm expecting a great competition, we have some incredible athletes on this team."
ADDITIONAL INDOOR PRS AND TOP-10 FINISHES
- Alexis Cain clocked a new indoor PR time of 24.17s in the women's 200m to claim a 6th place finish in a stacked field. Additionally in the event, Madison Pippins (24.82s), Mikeya Washington (24.99s) and Glodis Thuridardottir (26.29s) also ran for an indoor PR.
- In the men's 200m, Davontay Kennedy placed 8th with a pace of 21.51s, an indoor PR. Eli England, the freshman, also picked up a new indoor PR in the event, finishing with a time of 21.61s.
- Mathilde Ruud picked up an 8th place finish in the women's mile, her 5:10.53s mark was just .12 milliseconds shy of a new indoor PR.
- In the men's mile, Rogelio Aguirre placed 5th and smashed his previous indoor PR by over 13 seconds with a blazing pace of 4:11.43s. Finishing in 8th, Josue Granados secured a new indoor PR with a mark of 4:14.04s, crushing his previous PR by nearly 7 seconds.
- In the second portion of the men's 200m, Jarvis Miles ran a 21.52s mark, good for a new indoor PR by almost two tenths of a second.
- Kaliah Jones placed 4th in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.72m, following right behind her was McKinley Novacek with an indoor PR of 1.72m. Both of their marks are currently T-3rd in the WAC standings.
- In the women's 3000m, Isabel Borrego placed 8th with a pace of 10:31.98s.
- Hayden Wilson secured a new indoor PR in the men's shot put with a 16.08m hurl. He currently sits 3rd in the WAC rankings.
- In the men's high jump, Miles Jones leaped 2.05m for a new indoor PR. His 7th place finish is currently good for 4th in the WAC rankings.
- Brandon Wilk finished the men's 3000m in 8:49.72, besting his previous indoor PR by nearly 7 seconds.
OUTLOOK ON INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
UTA will have ten days to prepare to compete in the WAC Indoor Championships, held in Albuquerque, Feb. 19–20. The Mavericks look primed for an excellent meet, ranking top three in 10 out of 18 possible events for the indoor season.
