ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (4-1) is looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season in their afternoon match against Wichita State at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks fell 4-0 to SMU in Tuesday's match. While the Mustangs were quick to clinch the match, the Mavs had a strong showing in singles and doubles play.
In singles play,
Bruna Casasampere and
Ana Paula Jimenez still remain undefeated in the spring. Casasampere holds a 4-0 record and Jimenez holds a 2-0 record. Neither player got to finish their match against SMU, but both were ahead in the final set when the match was decided.
Tara Gorinsek also had a strong showing against SMU, taking the first set over No. 109 Drew Morris before the match was called.
The Mavericks also had a strong doubles showing despite falling 2-1 in doubles play against the Mustangs. Casasampere and
Francisca Vergara earned a strong win over SMU's Maja Makoric and Millie Skelton to move to 3-1 on the season.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
The Shockers hold a 4-3 record in the spring season going into Thursday's match. Head-to-head, the Mavericks hold a 3-9 record against the Shockers. In their most recent meeting in 2023, they fell 4-0 in Wichita. The last time the Mavs defeated the Shockers was in 2022 with the 4-0 win at the UTA Tennis Center.
