ARLINGTON, Texas – For the third week in a row, Gia Adams was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
 
The junior guard from Cypress, Texas averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Lady Mavs, who went 2-0 on the week by defeating Tarleton State on the road and UT Rio Grande Valley at home.
 
In the win against Tarleton State, Adams tallied 22 points, her second highest scoring game on the season. She pulled down two rebounds, dished out an assist, had one block and one steal in 32 minutes of action. In the victory over UTRGV, Adams put up 19 points, grabbed five rebounds, tossed out three assists and had two steals while not committing a turnover in 19 minutes.
 
For the season, Adams leads the Lady Mavs in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game. She also averages 3.2 assists per game as well as 2.9 rebounds per contest. She is currently shooting .450 from the field on the year and is the only Lady Mav to average over 30 minutes a game with 31.6 per game.
 
The Lady Mavs continue their conference slate when they hit the road for the Beehive State for a pair of road games. UTA battles Southern Utah on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. central time and then head to Utah Tech for a Saturday, Feb. 24, matchup that starts tips off at 2 p.m. central time.
